ALDERMASTON WHARF REVISED PLANS SUBMITTED

H20 has submitted a revised planning application for the regeneration of Aldermaston Wharf. The changes to the plans seek to address some of the concerns raised by local stakeholders and West Berkshire Council.
The key changes to the scheme are:
• Reducing the number of units from 14 to 11
• Altering the layout and improving the setting of the Visitor Centre and Toll House
• Reducing the heights, density and size
• Revising the design of the buildings through the use of different materials, such as wood and slate to better reflect the local vernacular.

The revisions to the scheme aim to ensure that the development:
• respects the area and the site’s canal heritage
• enhances the character and appearance of the Conservation Area
• places the Visitor Centre and Toll House are the focal point for the new development.

Further details of the revised scheme are:
• 11 residential units providing a mix of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes with private outside space
• 18 residential car parking spaces
• Extensive landscaping to the public realm
• Upgrading the car parking for the visitors centre and providing 14 spaces.

Planning application withdrawn

Following extensive discussions with West Berks Council H20 has withdrawn its planning application in order to do further work to address some issues raised. Most notably to further enhance the setting of the Listed Buildings and improve the visual amenity and landscaping to the area.

Once we have revised our plans there will further opportunities to view and comment on the new proposals.

Application submitted following detailed consultation

H20 has submitted a planning application to West Berkshire Council to regenerate Aldermaston Wharf following detailed consultation with local stakeholders. The submitted planning application is for 13 houses providing 8 x two bedroom houses; 2 x  three bedroom houses; 3 x four bedroom houses.

Each house will have its own private garden space, both front and rear, as well as external storage space. The buildings will be arranged in three individual terraces and will be a mixture of heights ranging from 2.5 storeys to 1.5 storeys.

The development will have 22 car parking spaces, which would allocate 1.5 spaces per two bedroom dwelling and 2 spaces per three and four bedroom dwelling.
The plans also propose the relocation of the visitor centre car park but retain the existing 14 parking spaces for visitors. In re-locating the car park we have given careful consideration to the setting of the listed visitor centre and the Conservation Area.
As as result of the consultation numerous changes were made to the plans (click here to see the changes).
